Premier announces wynyard tourism boost<\/p>\n
The City of Vancouver will be boosting its tourism potential with another wave of attractions, says Mayor Gregor Robertson. The plan: make wynyard more accessible to tourists and help increase Vancouver’s reputation as a destination for world-class tourism.<\/p>\n
The City of Vancouver is offering two new attractions \u2013 The Wynyard and the Wynyard Hotel. The former has been under construction since 2010. The Wynyard will feature more than 800 screens, including a 60-meter-tall model of the famous William Blake sculpture, located just steps away from the iconic Wilensky Building. Other additions include a 15-meter statue of a bison, a 20-meter-tall replica of the “Wynyard” mural, and the addition of a 21-foot model boat that will tour Vancouver’s most famous landmark. The Wynyard Hotel will SM \uce74\uc9c0\ub178<\/a>feature more than 300 luxury rooms\ucf54\uc778 \uce74\uc9c0\ub178<\/a>, including a 10-story glass-fronted hotel that can accommodate 500 guests.<\/p>\n “The goal is to continue to promote our tourism as high and growing as possible,” Robertson said.<\/p>\n One of the highlights of a wynyard experience is seeing an iconic sculpture created by British artist Sir David Attenborough.<\/p>\n Attenborough is also an influential figure in the industry. He’s the inventor of the Attenborough balloon. The exhibit, known as Attenborough’s Voyage, opens on Oct. 28. \nRobertson said Thursday that wynyard tourism \u2013 the promotion of tourism in the region by providing an area that is not seen by the general public \u2013 is worth $2 million to the City of Vancouver. It is not a long-term program, but he said the City is looking to add more attractions.<\/p>\n
