GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WCMH)–The Grand Rapids Police Department is taking the blame for the shooting death of 16-year-old Tyler Smith. His family says police shot and killed him just after 4 in the early morning hours of August 4th after learning of his criminal history.

According to Grand Rapids police, police arrived to an address for suspects in connection with a burglary and shooting.창원출장안마 창원출장샵 After a foot chase and confrontation that left an officer seriously wounded, police say Smith got into an SUV. When he pulled out his gun he began firing, hitting an officer and a passenger in the vehicle, killing two of the suspects, a 17-year old female and 20-year old male respectively.

According to Grand Rapids police, Smith had a criminal history of arrests for battery, sexual assault, simple assault, and possession of a firearm by a person under 17. He’s been charged with murder, and if convicted he could be sentenced to life in prison. Police say Smith was armed and the situation escalated dramatically.

Smith’s mother says that when she arrived home, she found her son’s body with a bullet wound to his stomach. She says that while she is heartbroken over the loss of her son, she won’t give up on seeking justice.

Police say Smith left an altercation in the car to go to the ho출장use of a friend who was with him at the time. Smith was not with that friend at the time of his shooting.

Smith’s family are hoping that someone comes forward with information, and they do not want to speculate on any individual or the motive for the killing, but say they are devastated and will do everything possible to obtain justice.

“Our family’s heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim that was found,” said Mike Smith.

Grand Rapids police say charges are pending against two of the suspects, but they were not arrested.
